So I was at a friends......

that has DirecTV and I wanted to look at the channel lineup. I looked from ch 1 to 300 and there were 34 "shopping" or "infomercial" channels. Between 1 and 300 there were only 164 channels used when setting to "all channels". This included PPV channels, the following number would be higher. So then 20% were shopping/infomercial channels that pay DirecTV to be aired, the opposite of channels with programs (ESPN, locals, News, AMC etc.) which DirecTV has to pay to show.

He pays a little over $70 a month total and has no premium channels like HBO, TMC etc. Pathetic as I see it. Surely as the channel numbers go higher there are less of these channels and the percentage goes down but it also didn't include channels that show infomercials at night like Comedy Central etc. Many many do.

Remember when Sirius and XM merged and they talked of an a la carte offering where the subscriber could choose channels? That didn't happen right? With satellites low audio quality and my weird musical tastes
I wouldn't subscribe anyway, just sayin' though.

I guess the public will never realize their power and use it.
