Here in New Haven County, CT ...

I live in one of the shoreline towns east of New Haven. Our power held until about 9AM Sunday and then went out. About 1000 feet down the street a tree came down on the power lines and snapped off two poles. Fixing that is going to take more than just restringing some downed wires - the broken poles will have to be replaced. The power is essentially 100% out from New Haven all the way east to Old Saybrook. Depending on who's talking, Connecticut Light and power is saying anything from "a few days" to "a week to 10 days" for restoration. My brother - in - law works in the state government in disaster preparation and he says that CL&P is privately telling state officials "two weeks" for full recovery.

Fortunately my house suffered no damage other than a bunch of broken tree limbs in the yard. You don't have to drive far to find houses with trees on them. The town announced last night that the start of school has been postponed from Thursday until next Tuesday.

I took my family to my sister - in - law's place in Stamford yesterday. She's in the 50% of that city that didn't lose power.
