soccer, ducks etc

finally got down the street to watch one of the local HS soccer matches. Jesuit HS here is ranked #2 nationally, 30-0 for the season so far. They play their main local rival Davis High in Division 1 championship game tonight. Davis ruined Jesuit's national championship 2 yrs ago (I watched that game. Good friend's kid scored the only goal in the game for Davis). This year, Jesuit's star is a kid named Andrew Mills, who is nationally ranked and apparently heavily recruited. I was standing next to a coach/recruiter from Harvard at the match Thursday. He went over to chat with Mills briefly at halftime and came back next to me and immediately made a phone call to someone: "...I just talked to him. He says he's going to Princeton. Damn Damn..." He got 2 goals this game, both off headers.. Jesuit beat Modesto 5-0. Here's a shot of him (with his cleats pointing at us) plus one of his team mates up high.

Also went for a vet's day walk to the river with my wifey and dog, as is our custom... Beautiful clear day with the Sierra snow looking good. American River in the foreground. Not an especially great photo, but you get the picture, so to speak.

No great birds available for photos, other than the ass of an egret, and I have a lot of egret ass shots, as they fly away. But I got a couple mallards..
