Thanks, Sox. Both my wife and I are in our mid-50's but pretty active. We would definitely prefer the "hands-on holiday of actually doing things" to sitting around expecting to be entertained. I held a PADI certification, but I haven't been down in about 30 years or so. Some diving would be cool, but we have to be careful - she's had a couple of inner ear surgeries, so high pressure stuff is not in the cards.
What we're looking for is to experience the people, the culture, and the land as much is as possible in a meager couple of weeks. We're only going to be able to do this once, so it has to be planned pretty well. I've learned the hard way not to push it - I'd rather do less, but maintain a more leisurely pace, and really enjoy the experience, as I did a couple of Feet's recommendations for places to quaff a good ale while in his neck of the woods. CAMRA rocks.
