you inadvertently wandered into a subject area that had been covered from a different perspective long, long ago. Looking at the monikers of those who responded to you this time, some of the same people chimed in. He who responded the loudest was able to do so so quickly because he had already practiced his posts a couple of times. Hey, if his system is capable of turning straw into gold, good for him. Mine can't, and I have yet to hear one that can.
The broader issue you were discussing is something many have struggled with. When I had a lot less stuff in my house, I was able to keep several systems going. The main system, a HT system, and a system comprised of vintage components that I would use for CD's recorded too hot or those that were lousy transfers to begin with. As time passed I didn't have the space to maintain the vintage system, so now what I do when I want to listen to one of those difficult CD's is either turn the volume down or just take it out into the garage and play it out there.
