Under our sunroom we built a cat retreat. The cats get out by a regular cat door, but it only goes in there (accessed from a room downstairs), they can't get outside of that area. Ours happens to be big (~8 x 16'), but it need not be.
Gives them a chance to go out in the sun, and gives us a place to put enough kittly litter boxes for 6 cats (!). :)
