Why not an indoor/outdoor cat? We have two and that's what we do. We feed them out mostly and give them special treats inside. They do their business outside as well. Keeps the upkeep factor much lower. You can get those automatic waterer's and feeders. We do the same for our four dogs, which are more needy and require more attention and work than cats.
