I'd like to convince my wife to adopt a kitty cat, but since I can't help in the physical care much (food, water, litter box and such) on account of my disability, and I already keep her hands full, she's a bit on the fence.
She thinks cats are adorable, but she didn't grow up with them like I did, and she became somewhat fatigued and frustrated when we house sat a neighbor's cat a couple of years ago. It was a lot harder for me to say goodbye to the little fellah when we returned him to the owner than it was for her.
Strange question, maybe, but any thoughts on how to make cat care as easy as possible (realizing, of course, that they are all wonderful, but stubborn and often times needy, little creatures)? Are any breeds easier? Male vs. female? Shelter? Breeder?
I was thinking maybe a female Siamese. I had one as a kid and she was like a sister and best friend rolled up into one. She constantly followed us around and spoke to us and even maintained eye contact. Well, I get choked up when I think too much about her. Wish I could find some DNA and have her cloned.
Also, I would never, never have a cat declawed, but perhaps we find one in a kill shelter that's already had that done to it?
Just rambling a bit, but this seems like as good a place as any for some helpful, knowledge based advice!
Thank in advance.
