Never a dull moment...

Our family has a large, black and white, very fluffy kitty. For reasons understood only by my wife and daughter, she is named Buttercup.

Spring has sprung, and Buttercup has been doing more than her share of roaming, followed by a very thorough regimen of fur maintenance. The inevitable result, of course is the dreaded hairball.

I was sleeping peacefully last night, my lovely wife delicately snoring by my side, when I heard the unmistakable sound of Buttercup depositing yet another gift on the floor near our bed. Since it was 3am, and I'm usually the first one up in the morning, I made a mental note to step carefully in the morning, rolled over, and drifted back into a gentle slumber.

I was not so peacefully awakened about 5:45 by the hysterical shrieks of my wife. Seems she had awakened early to "powder her nose", and in the early morning light, she spied Buttercup's leavings. It wasn't until she bent down to pick the hairball up that she noticed this was a very special hairball, with ears on one end, and a little tail on the other. Millie does not like mice, not one little bit. Apparently, she felt that everyone in the house needed a gentle reminder of that fact.

After I was able to peel myself off the ceiling, I casually sauntered over to investigate. It was, in fact, the earthly remains of a mouse, liberally coated with kitty slime. Here's the part that I couldn't believe: The mouse was completely intact. I simply can't imagine what possessed Buttercup to try to swallow a mouse whole. Initiation rite for the local late-night Kitty social club? Too much catnip? Curiosity?

Fortunately, Buttercup seems just fine. My wife will most likely recover, as well. On a positive note, I didn't need any coffee to perk me up this morning. Has anyone here ever had one of their kitties pull a similar stunt?
