We have fish in the ocean we call Bass and Sea Bass & Striped Bass but they don’t look like the fish you call Bass. We have a Red Bass that looks a little like your fish (except the colour) but they grow very large. (3 feet & more)
Where I fish it is usually the habitat that determines how hard the fish can fight/run. A Red-throated Emperor caught in the shallows goes like a train but one caught in say 50 metres of water is not nearly as strong in the fight. An example; In deep water many of the fish you might be able to land with 20lb – 30 lb line but in the shallows you often get broken off on 50lb line.
The fish over here that are regarded good fighters are. Spangled Emperor, Turum, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel & big Amberjack.
Some mates are coming over shortly for a BBQ and we are trying to arrange a reef trip before the next scheduled one in August.
