I find myself shocked at the responsibilities I handle for some fairly serious companies. Not because I think I'm in over my head, really. I actually feel quite skilled at what I do (most of the time).
But sometimes I seriously feel like I'm the only child in a room full of boring grown ups (and I'm almost 43 years old)! I could be on a conference call with opposing counsel and think, "They're OK, but seem a bit stuffy and . . . too mature." Or at a Board meeting and think, "Jeez, lighten up! These folks are so serious!" And it's not that I don't take my work seriously. I do. In fact way too seriously at times at the expense of sleep and peace of mind. And I guess I play the grown up as effectively as anyone, though I have a bit of a reputation for trying to keep things fun and funny when need be.
Luckily, my wife is identical to me in this respect, and we are glued together, so we play a lot and have fun together and enjoy a lot of the same hobbies and past times, and fight for free time, so that's all good. And, for the most part, my close childhood friends seem like kids in all the right ways too.
I don't know the answer, but I can tell you that we have seen a chickadee, a tufted titmouse (snicker), a blue jay, a male and female cardinal, starlings, robins, house finches (with the red heads) and, of course, lots of house sparrows, in our tiny back yard by our feeder the past few days. Spring is in the air! Cheer up!
