How far the industry may be correct will probably depend on how far the low ambition priorities of convenience and low cost are allowed to continue to become embedded in general culture, rather than the significantly different priorities relating to the simple focused search for delivered excellence...
If the popularity of such obvious "convenience" items as MP3 players is maintained - despite the obviously compromised quality - and if such poor "vague reminders" of the music are mostly viewed by the general public as being "good enough", then high quality audio will naturally be likely to continue to be ever more a niche product, with the inevitable higher costs from lower "economies of scale" the natural consequence...
So how do I feel about such a general prospect?... Ruff!!...
