That's the style of wine I was referring to in my stickies post. Slurp and roll and TASTE it!
Indeed sauternes is at the top of the list of the stickies for many of us!
And, still Rose is NOT always a blend of white and red wines FR, it's mostly NOT. Being a wine made either from very-light-red grapes and/or only left to macerate on the skins for a very short time, so that very little colour is absorbed.
Yes, some pink/rose bubblies are made by adding a little pinot noir wine that IS dark red to the white. But some are also made as above!
Just because like many Americans, you're only coming to wine now, doesn't justify the only two types statement.
There have always been, even here in Australia, several different kinds of Red wines. Big hard edgy reds (cabsauv?), Big soft dry reds (Shiraz?), and varying blends, and then; soft fruity Italian style DRY reds, soft fruity Italian style sweetish reds, and in-between ones like a valpolicella, or a Tuscan / chianti!
"one kind of Whites", ????? IF dry reislings (made since the Romans in Germany) are in anyway similar to a nice dry semillon, or a frascatti, I'll eat my hat.
And EG's french lass had it right, drink/buy what YOU like!
As Mike and I are bargain hunters, we do tend to come across more varieties and styles, which doesn't hurt! ;-) !
