I like the semi-dry wines like Reisling and ice-wines and even the design-wines when they are very fruity...such as (some) Eastern Concords and Niagara. The states in the US trying to grow Mediterranean grapes in an alpine region...sheesh! But PA, Maryland and New York can make some superb German styled wines...I just wish they wouldn't try to make dry reds!
I love big (dry) reds as much as any wine snooty bastard, but not if they're all BIG and no fruit. I want to know I'm drinking something made from a fruit. So, along with the "almonds" and "smoky" and "citrus" and all the other descriptions by the snoots, I want FRUIT! If it has no fruity overtones/undertones (depending on style), to me it's merely mouthwash. But when it does have complexity and fruitiness...AHHHHHHHHHH!
I almost forgot great dry whites...as long as they don't go oak crazy!
But sweet characterless wines made for people who don't really like wines...YUCKOLA!
