from public teaching in a year and then doing something really enjoyable, like doing root canals on school principals. You are to be congratulated for your loyalty, both to your job, wife, and family.

You just reminded me that I graduated from college finally (after 7 years) almost exactly on this date 38 years ago. Then I started teaching a few months later. I was younger then. Things are definitely different now, but it is a world in which I don't really know if I belong in many ways.
