The dreaded Occupational Privilege Tax

In PA, the "Lords of the Commonwealth" have decreed that municipalities can tax you up to $52 for the privilege of earning the money you pay your taxes with in their town or city. Lancaster also has a per capita tax of $10 for the privilege of living there.

Didn't Philly have some type of occupational tax on the amount of money you earned in the city? I remember talk about taxing out of town professional athletes based on the percentage of the money they earned while playing in the city. A football player visiting The Linc for one game would be taxed on 1/16 of his annual salary. Don't remember hearing how that worked out.
