You were correct the first time: Black Gate "Heart of Muse" capacitors were once available in the power supply: This is the $500 option that Ron alluded to. I don't believe he ever made any bones about the fact that any sonic improvement it made in this particular application was going to be very subtle (in a cathode bypass situation, it's a whole 'nother story!) And yet, it totally made sense to offer this option because unfortunately, sometimes you gotta offer pricey options to be taken seriously by audiophiles. That's probably a moot point now because I believe Rubycon discontinued all Black Gate production, so any you find left are from dwindling supplies of old stock.
IMO? Even if you had a setup that wasn't quite optimum for 45 amps, one that sent the amp into clipping on middling to loud music, you'd probably still want to own a set, because what they do well, they do DAMNED well.
Here's how I'd option mine:
Base DRD w/solid state rectification
Bird's eye maple bases @ $60
Silver hookup wire option @ $75
Maybe the Caddock resistors @ $22
TJ Meshplate 45That's all!
