I do not think it will do a lot of good. The heat activated acid in the rosin of your solder will have a far greater effect. If you are using any really old stock components with heavy oxidation on the leads, you can lightly scrape them with an Xacto knife to polish them up. Don't use steel wool as you will get little metal hairs everywhere. If you have all new components, don't worry about it.
