Hi Ron. You know what? I just got back from 10 days with my wife's parents for the holidays (hot button) and am running through the emails and web pages and stuff, remembering the post I sort of flopped onto your lap - and I read it and I am not even sure I know what I would have been asking. I know it was late, and I was finishing up some take home tests for the semester, and I most likely was not thinking about what I was doing while I typed a quick message.

So here is what I am asking:

(and thank you for replying, and I hope you had a good Christmas and new year)

I have a passive preamp that I am working with at the moment. Actually, a Fi X integrated. And I am going to use a new record player with it - so I need a good (and relatively straightforward) phono preamp to use with a Rega Elys MM.

So, the parts come together, and I would need a switch, chassis, plugs, and the transformer. A while back I was at a friend's (Tom Ronan) and he showed me a small circuit board with mini tube sockets and a bunch of little parts pointing up from all over, and said it was relatively cheap and needed a transformer in order to be used with a good MM. I wonder if it was the same thing you are talking about.

Anyway, what will all of these things together cost? And is it pretty easy to build - I mean, I have messed aroung with the Fi X a little (new connectors and I turned the output tube sockets 45 degrees like Don told me, as I use 45 triodes [at least for a little while]), so I can solder and stuff. But this would be my first venture of actually building something. I have no fear, as long as such things are possible and ethical.

I am really excited to play records again on SETs and Lowthers.

Thanks

Shane
