After a rather frustrating and problematic build (mostly due to my ineptitude.....) my pre amp is done and operational. I replaced a Marantz 7C that a friend had loaned me with the new pre amp on Friday night. First impression - yuck. Tight, shallow, not even in the same class as the Marantz. Fortunately, first impressions don't last with these products. I have about 10 hours on it now, and it is getting better with each passing minute....Listening last night, I could have sworn Greg Brown was sitting on a stool right in front of me. The mid range is amazing. The sound is filling out nicely....They are dead silent - so much so, I can hear the pump in the hot tub out on the back deck, and the black between tracks is almost spooky!
As I said, I did struggle with the build on this one.....blew one of the small .5A fuses somehow, got that replaced, and discovered I had somehow messed up one of the three micro switches (open in both positions....) got that replaced, and sorted out my wiring confusion as posted Thursday..... and finally fired it up Friday evening.
Want to thank Ron for his patience, and for the product - good stuff. It will be fun to sit back and enjoy them for a while.
