Thanks for the advice Les, but it's either the basic kit or nothing at the moment, and this is my Christmas present so I want it NOW!It's never impossible to retro-fit any piece of gear. My preamp (a Bottlehead Foreplay) has gone through four incarnations involving upgrades of most components and the entire chassis - the only thing which remains from the original is the chassis plate, transformer, tag strips and tube sockets - so it can be done, although it may be a frustrating and tedious experience requiring a complete deconstruction of the equipment.
The Laurels would be more complex, of course, but then again that gives me a tinkering project at a later date.
