As you have mentioned, two of the mods you use are guitar amp tricks for brightening up an amp. Lifting the input stage cathode resistor bypass cap is often a front panel switch labled Normal/Bright. The 47 pico farad pot bypass allows frequencies above the cutoff for this cap to pass part of the pots attenuation.If you have dark, bass heavy speakers these mods would sound better. However, if your speakers are already on the bright side (any you have not burned out your ears from lot of high volume listening / rock concerts / guns / crickets etc.) the changes could lead to a very trebeled experience. Easily reversed, however.
