Hi. I just noticed after I bought my Paraglow amsp, that my 15k Welborne mono ladder attenuators seem to have less bass punch or less dynamics than they use to. I suspect an impedance mismatch as everything else is the same: Short 1m low capacitance cables, very low source impedance(200ohms) ect. I think the imput impedance of the Paraglows is 249K.
The Funny thing is, I have used this attenuator for well over a year with an ST70 triode amp, imput impedance of 470K, and have never heard the slightest bit of dynamic loss. But now I find that, very neutral sounding tube preamps like the Foreplay with the C4S board, seem to have more bass punch or dynamics than this 15k passive.
Also, this low value 15k control was reccomend by Ron, as a good all around choice for my 470k amp or my old solid state amp. I was very surprise to find out he was indeed correct! I have had in the past, no gain loss and no dynamic loss.
So, should I try a higher value resistor selection for better dynamics with a 249k tube amp? Say, 50K? Regards, Greg R.
