Thanks Mike,Well the 45 seems to be latest rave but unfortunately I think a lot of this has to do with a few individuals/companies that want to sell you their product and therefore they are pronouncing them as better than 2A3s, 300Bs, etc. Unfortunately what these people aren't telling you is that GOOD 45s are EXTREMELY difficult to find these days and many of these manufacturers that are selling the 45 amps are hording the remaining inventories.
I've heard several 45 amps and while they sound great, I wouldn't say they are better than a 2A3 or 300B amp, just different in their own right. So my question is...why?
First, why buy a 45 amp when you may not be able to find a tube for it in a year. And why bother to mod the Moondog if you can't get good tubes for it. Heck, two years ago I stopped offering NOS 2A3s with the Moondog sales because 50% of these tubes on the market were junk! The situation with the 45s is even worse!\
But to answer your question (now that I'm through ranting): Yes, the Moondog can be modified to use the 45 requiring only that the bias of the tube be changed so that the plate current limit is not exceeded.
