Hi Jon,

The guy that painted my horns kept them for 4 months so I can't really say (personally) if there is a sonic difference. Bert Doppenberg claims there is a difference. My guess is, the paint will help to dampen the horn vibrations.

You can always paint the horns at a later date. It only takes about 30 minutes to disassemble a pair of the horns.

My Oris begins to rolloff at 180Hz so that is where I crossover. I'd recommend you crossover at 200Hz. The gap between 140 and 180 is too big and could cause an audible drop out.
