Marantz 1060 Problem

I have a Marantz 1060 which I bought used about a year ago. It has been putting out wonderful sound as a headphone amp until two nights ago. Out of the blue, one channel has become very loud. (I am not saying the other channel has gone quiet; it is still fine.) The problem is one channel is like it is in overdrive. Since the 1060 has a split amp/preamp, I have been able to determine that the problem is in the amp section. The preamp section works fine with another amp. Using a different preamp into the 1060 exhibits the one channel loud problem. I am going to take it in to have someone look at it, but I wonder if anyone here has run into this problem and what it might be? Just trying to gather more info to give the repair folks.
