Yup, for some reason I always followed Toshiba, I thought their ideas were kind of cool. Their first main Reel to Reel in North America (1972ish) was easier to operate than similar Sony's of that era. Some sort of condensor type of cartridge in the turntables. Their receivers sound very good and they made some good tuners too. They just always seemed to be the underdog in the marketing arena. Their equipment of the early 80's was built on the same frames as Kenwood. Some said it was Toshiba that build the Kenwood equip in the early 80's, wouldn't be surprised as the chassis are the same, with a re-arranged faceplate. Their first and second generation CD players (XRZ90 & XRZ70) were battle ships. The first NAD CD was the XRZ70 stripped. Alpine built a home CD player and it was the XRZ90. In 1981 Toshiba built a cassette deck that ran against Nakamichi - the PCX88AD. It used it's own noise reduction system besides dolby known as adres. It was as good as dbx but due to marketing, never took off. It's electronics could be converted to a regular external cassette deck. Never did see another machine capable of this. They even built a small portable world band radio about 1982 that was identical to a Kenwood model. Watching the world hockey cup on a 1984 Toshiba Black Stripe right now. Still great picture. Bring home the SA 320.
