My memory is hazy on this, but I think the "VU" meter was an anti-skate meter. My Pioneer PL-1150 does not have it. I agree that these old Pioneers were built well. Mine looks like the arm was sourced from Luster. You could get a nice sound out of these, for not much money, with the right cartridge.Dave
