If you don't have the TS parameters or audio meters it could be anything from improper impedence to some bizarre spiking quality of the driver itself just showing up at higher volumes. I'm finding the same thing with a pair of speakers I'm playing with right now. They sound great at low to medium volume. Crank them up and the bass is weak and the treble becomes beamy. You might need to move the crossover point up and use a simple first order on the woofer and a 3rd order on the tweeter. Impedence, notching, etc without the T/S would be guess work at best. Other problems could be the cabinet itself. When you pump up the volume that bass has a lot of rear chamber air to deal with. It maybe cancelling itselt out. Try using a simple piece of carbet padding tacked behing the woofer?????? That was an old trick the speaker guys did in the old days.charles
