Chicagoish, if you're handy with a soldering iron, why not mod your JBLs so that they emulate their Lansing heritage? First off, replace those thin stock wires with 16 gauge speaker wire. Then, if the sound starts to open up, remove the stuffing and let your cabinets breathe! If you really wanna experiment, bypass the crossover network and try a 12 uf non-polarized cap on the midrange, and a 4 uf non-polarized on the tweeter! It'll give yer JBLs a refined west coast-style sizzle-n-boom timbre! Then enjoy yer vintage vibers throughout the holidaze and into ought-four-n-beyond!!!
