I have tried different types of resistors & prefer high quality metal film such as Vishay CMF over higher noise carbon comp resistors in home entertainment audio electronics. Wire wound is even more quiet, but limited to about 75K ohm. If one just has to have carbon comp, I would keep these type out of grid input circuits & use metal film or wire wound.I do understand the carbon comp has a sonic signature, but not a lot of difference to my ears. In some new guitar amps, the manufactures will only use carbon comp resistors as they state the low background noise is not an issue & must have that carbon comp sonic signature.
