Sometimes, a Sovtek 5AR4 will arc over at power on. The effect is voltage handling related. The SS diode in series raises the overall PIV capability and the arcing does not occur.

Don't take liberties with vacuum rectifier capacitance limits. Doing so can lead to permanent damage. :>((
