years ago, I almost bought into that theory the newer gear is better, until I started buying some of the older Macs. Have a pair of 30s, pair of 60s, a 225 and a 240. would have to agree with the other posters on the 225 and the 60. The 225 is a very sweet sounding amp.
all the early macs benefit from better parts.
The sleeper mod on the 240 is to pull those 6L6GCs and insert a set of the re-issue Tungol 6550s. Gives the 240 a nice bump in imaging and dynamics, and the power supply is stiff enough to handle the extra current draw from the larger tubes, so runs cool as a cucumber.
