RE: seatbelts

Many years ago, a friend from high school had a similar experience - he hit a patch of ice, the car flipped over a guard rail, and it started rolling (side over side) down an embankment. The windshield popped out and he popped out through the hole. The car landed on its roof which collapsed down to the doors. My friend was left lying on the hillside with a broken leg, but he was alive. For years after that he refused to wear a seatbelt.

He's older and wiser now, and wears belts religiously. The way cars are built these days, you are so much safer remaining inside the vehicle, strapped to your seat.
