RE: seatbelts

My '64 Corvair Monza had factory seatbelts.

At that time my sister got a '62 Pontiac LeMans convertible which didn't come with seatbelts. As a big brother I began nagging her to get belts installed. Good thing she didn't!

After having the LeMans only a couple of months she and a girlfriend were driving back from Lake Michigan, top down, when a tire blew on I-96. She lost control and the car flipped, throwing both from the vehicle. The Pontiac landed upside down, shearing off the windshield and top of the steering wheel. They both survived but would not have if they had been belted in.

So that was extremely fortunate but it didn't change my mind about seat belts. That happened in the late '60s and I've continued to use them every time I get into a car.
