On your MCD-7000 that's a relatively easy fix.

Underneath the transport you have a little AGC board that supplies the signal to the optics and on this board there is a 3.3uf cap that is leaky.The longer the unit is on,the leakage goes down and the board is able to work again but it's going to get worse.There are only two caps on that board as I remember but that was a common problem on the 7000 series.
Now,you don't have to unplug the board as you can move it out far enough to work on it.
