Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

ADC XT-6 speakers

They have the identical sized cabinet and CTS drivers that the earlier ADC 404 speakers had.
Seems to be three main differences between the two;

The ADC 404 cabinets are finished better.
There is a tweeter loudness switch on the back of the ADC XT-6 speakers.
The ADC XT-6 have 5-way binding posts instead of small screw terminals.

Put close to a back wall, they have solid and substantial bass for their small size.
Mids are quite good while treble is 'there', but substantially rolled off.
The back panel loudness switch (IMHO) works, but seems to unbalance the speakers a little bit at the expense of the fine bass response.
I am running these 6 ohm speakers with a homebrew 6L6/EL34 SEUL integrated tube amplifier.
No problem at all getting significant volume, and the 6 ohm load seems to pose no hardship whatsoever to the 3.5k Edcor GXSE output transformers.
Considering these speakers ran me a 12 pack of beer money, I consider myself quite fortunate in the pick-up.

Steve
