RE: Combining the old and the semi-old with the new

I think you have a Samsung, based on the model number.

Does the DVD recorder have a HDMI or DVI output? If so you can use either one, the DVI with a hdmi adapter. For the audio just use the analog outs on the DVD to your receiver. If the TV has a HDMI output you can get a HDMI de-embedder for audio or if the TV outputs PCM rather than only Dolby Digital you could get a digital toslink cable and purchase a used dac to run audio to the receiver. There are a lot of old used dacs that can be had very cheaply.
