RE: Can you rehab grills on Quad ESL57's?

Hi there,

Yes you can rehab original grills to a point. They are made of aluminum and were originally anodized

You can give original grills a bath with a hand shower in the tub & let them dry thoroughly.

As for dents you can roll them out from the inside out with a small hand roller. You can end up with pretty good results if the grilles are not too "punched"

I've never powder coated existing grilles - but at one time Quad Musik in Germany who remanufactures Quad ESLs offered brand new grilles that were powder coated... I bought 2 pair for a stacked set. I attach a pic of what they look like on. They since went on to anodize them.

Some how in my travels I acquired a few sets of grilles and I believe I have one more Quad Musik set in copper - they come flat and you have to form them to the ESL.

Other solutions are socks of regular grille cloth sewn to slip form over the speaker.

Great speakers , I enjoy mine with the Marantz 7 , Aesthetix Io (Sometimes) and either the Marantz Model 2 , 5 or 8B. The set up is shown prior to my listening room being done.

It will be a nice set up.. Piquet's work in Florida is exceptional. They actually present really nice bass when re-done. Never heard the Model 9s - make sure you have the protection array in so you don't fry the tweeters.
