RE: My vintage Reel to Reel

The BR20 was the last reel to reel Tascam produced in 1992.

My Revox A77 is the first version MKI and was produced between 67 to 69.

The Revox PR 99 MKIII was initialy produced in 1988 (?)

I upgraded the Revox PR 99 MKIII with new heads.

For me the PR 99 and the BR20 are far superior than the A77.

The A77 has a very "sweet" analogue sound and i like it a lot, specialy with old vinyl records.

The Tascam is more "hi-fi" than the others. Very "strong" sound !

The Revox PR 99 is the one i like more. There is something about the recordings that sound so natural, alive, and completely analogic that seems to miss in the others. Its a fantastic reel to reel!

Dont get me wrong, the BR20 is still a great Reel to Reel, specialy with cd/sacd recordings but it seems to lack the musicality that the PR 99 Holds.

Both PR 99 and BR20 are 2 tracks and 15ifps. a77 is 2 track and 7 1/2 ifps.

I also use the revox a77 with small speakers because it has internal amplification. I enjoy seing a 50 years old reel to reel working so fine and also knowing it was the first version of the revox a77. Everything thing in this rtr is so manual- cool!

For me RTR is the King and nothing comes close. ( maybe only by some "old" top vinyl systems)
