But (please correct me if I am wrong) I believe the original used 3045 tubes (like the name). I had one or two home to test, when they first came out here, for a week or two. I thought they sounded quite lovely, though not sufficiently better than my then Dyna Stereo-70 to warrant my buying them. In those days the tubes-vs.-ss debate was full throated; I was on the then-losing side; and any of the tubed amps I heard sounded vastly better, to me, than any of the 1970s ss amps I tried from time to time, hoping they might get better.
I heard of people complaining about reliability problems, though, and difficulties finding new output tubes.
