I'm certainly no expert, but if solid state reliability and rebuildability (I know, not really a word) are considerations, why not a rebuild of one of the older Sony receivers like the STR-6050? It uses discrete boards that could easily be repopulated with modern caps, resistors, etc. The layout and original build quality of the older Sonys is really quite amazing IMO. I imagine that upgraded with modern parts, the performance would be quite respectable...hmmm...might have to test that theory myself.
