Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

I have to ask as well

I am familiar with your available gear and the tweakings you have done over the years. And it seems you haven't found that special something in your present stock.

Heck, we've all been there. And a lot of us are STILL there. The very definition of the amp/preamp forum.

Me - I'm finally good! My Conrad Johnson/VTA ST-70 with kt-66s - ain't getting better!!!! And the Sherwood - (I don't want to rub this in) is wonderful! But I did put about $1000 into it between restoration and tubes.

But what "feeling" is it that isn't being filled?

Can this void even be filled with a solid state amp. Or is it tubes you really need to have? Just a thought. But have you considered one of the VTA tube preamp kits to start with? That may be the ticket to "smooth" out the SS amps you are using.
