RE: Vintage Does Not Always = Quality

as someone that worked in a stereo store in the early 70's, I saw plenty of mass produced crap that would make this radio look like Ultra high end.

We would get stuff from Taiwan or Hong Kong to use as loss leaders for a holiday sale and the quality on some was so bad we would open all the boxes and test them before the sale so we didn't have to deal with all the returns. I can remember a particular home 8 track deck that had more than half dead out of the box.
