There's no antenna attached and I just cleaned and reconnected everything. Still no change. Also oddly there was recently a bunch of stuff moved around in the apartment and things didn't change for better or worse.

What do you mean by shielding? I did notice that putting my hands on the top of the receiver made the noise greatly decrease.
