Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

I have a 2100

And use it as a subwoofer amp connected to a pr of AR3a used as woofers.

I found the 2100 to be flat and 2 dimensional when used full range. That , it is vey quiet, built to withstand a bomb blast, and retains its value.

To your question- AR used Dynaco MKIII monoblocks to demonstrate the AR3. You can find a restored pair for $1200-$1500. They will not sound as good as a restored Cit II, but will hold their resale value until you can get a better amp.

On the SS side, maybe look for an Adcom 555 and then have it rebuilt. Total cost should be about $1000.

Classicspeakerpages.org is a site dedicated to AR speakers. Many of the participants favor Big Crown and Pahse Linear amps to drive 3/3a speakers.

Enjoy !

Best, Ross.
