Back in the day, Tektronix held very, very high standards for all their scope components - everything from tubes, to turret boards, to transformers, to switches and so on.
They discovered, for example, that conventional turret boards of the day weren't stable enough to enable stable performance, so they invented ceramic turret boards, getting several patents in the process.
If you want a look at some real point to point wiring art, look inside an old Tek analog scope.
If you happen to be in the Portland area with a little time on your hands, the vintageTek Museum (see link) is very cool, staffed almost entirely by retired Tek employees.
