If 2 VRMS is needed for full power O/P, a low gain line stage seems to be appropriate. The max. signal of a "standard" CDP is 2 VRMS and you do want to be able to drive the "finals" into clipping, without clipping in the small signal circuitry.

12B4 based designs are (IMO) obvious candidates for the job.
