Reinforcing a vintage speaker cone

I have an old Altec 604 12" driver. I'm repairing two tears in the cone w/coffee filters and E-6000. It has an accordion edge and I wanted to reinforce it. I've seen a guy do it w/contact cement put on w/ a paint brush and wondered if anyone here has done so and what they used. Thanks in advance.
