If it was legit, I honestly feel your pain.
I passed on a solid state Marantz tuner and integrated amp for 35 bucks in the Salvation Army up here (ONLY because I have a 2230 in the cellar redone by Mike Soccaro (sp?) and they were only there for a couple of hours or so as I thought screw it for the coin I can let them keep the 2230 company so I went back to get them and GONE. Not as bad as your story for sure but in the same vein.
Talk about missing the big one.
